Conrad Hackett is a social demographer intrigued by how religious commitment shapes behaviors and attitudes. His current research focuses on how religion influences intended and achieved fertility levels.

With collaborators, he is also studying the demographic patterns of American elites, scientific knowledge in the general public, attitudes of scientists towards religion, and the relationship between cognitive frameworks and attitudes.

He worries about methodological problems that obscure understanding of the world in which we live. For example, scholars and pollsters do not measure evangelicals in America consistently--their estimates of this population range as high as 1 in 2 Americans and as low as 1 in 20. He writes about such issues.

In the past, he has conducted research on faith-based organizations, inter-religious friendships, religion and socioeconomic status, and the religious marketplace on college campuses.
